Logan Dry Canyon Trail

Full Marathon

This beautiful course is not your average marathon. It is much more. It is going to be the toughest but most fulfilling marathon you have ever done. How many marathons have over 6,000 feet of climbing and then another 6,000 feet of descent?

You will start at the foothills of Logan Dry Canyon at Hyrum Gibbons Mt. Logan Park (see link to park above) and very quickly head uphill. After 1 mile of pavement you will join the singletrack trail that is Logan Dry Canyon. After 4.5 miles you will hit the first aid station (#1), refill and head southwest on South Syncline trail. As you enjoy the flatter sections of the trail you will weave in and out of aspens until you wrap around the mountain and start heading east. You will have great views of Logan and Providence way below you.

After some fun and fast downhill you will start to climb again as you run on welches flat jeep trail. This is a good spot to pass and settle in for some sections of running followed by stretches of hiking up the steeper sections of trail. Before long you turn north and head towards the aid station (#2) right at the base of the out and back to the peak at mile 12. Make sure you refill before heading to the peak.

The views from the top are worth the effort of ‘running’ up to the peak on the rough dirt road. Don’t worry, even the fast runners walk many sections of this run. It’s ok to walk! Make sure you tag the towers before heading back to the aid (#3). After another top-off you now get to enjoy the north syncline trail.

There is a short road bit before a hard left 3/4 of a mile out of the aid. Don’t miss this so you can enjoy more downhill. While cruising through the downhill you will see endless meadows of mule ears plants which are usually blooming with bright yellow flowers. Don’t get too distracted or you will miss the hard left turn 1/2 mile from the last turn. This one gets missed often and will take you to a beautiful overlook but not today.

Turn hard left at the sign marking the start of the North Syncline trail (singletrack) which is my favorite 3 miles of old growth forest overlooking Logan Canyon. There isn’t a shortcut down if you are feeling a bit rough around the edges. The easiest way down the mountain is to keep going as you follow the flagging.

You will eventually wrap around the front of the mountain and head back south and finally start the final descent of the race. You will be happy to see the aid station (#4) at the same spot as aid #1 and now you head straight down Logan Dry canyon trail back to the start. It is usually hot and dry for this descent so top off the fluids and take care not to trip on the steep and rocky trail.

You got this, it’s all downhill to the finish as you finally make it back to pavement and get to blow up those quads as you race down the hill turning left at the 2nd street where there is a church on the corner. Head south on Gibbon’s Parkway and finish strong back to the park.

Enjoy some food and drink while you celebrate completing one of the best trail marathons around. You won’t get a Boston Qualifying time here but you can tell your friends you ran to “that peak with the towers.” They will roll their eyes and change the subject but you know what you did….

Half Marathon

(Coming in 2027)

We are working with the Forest Service to revitalize the trail that heads straight to the peak from Logan Dry Canyon. If we get enough help to do so we are cleared to run the 1/2 marathon straight to the peak starting in 2027. Stay tuned for this!

Aid Station Food & Drink

We are excited to have GU Roctane Energy & Hydration Drink Mixes at all aid stations!

All aid stations will also have a variety of gels, chews and waffles from Gu Energy! Grab and go.

AID STATION FOOD

Here is a list of food to expect at the aid stations. We have to pack in/out the food, drinks and water for Aids 1 & 4 so it will have less than Aids 2 & 3.

Fruit (Grapes, Oranges, Bananas)

PB&J Sandwiches

Trail Mix, assorted nut mixes

Granola Bars

Potato Chips

Coke, Sprite, Ginger Ale, Mtn. Dew

Maybe some other random stuff

The Fine Print:

We don’t allow bib transfers or deferrals. We do offer a $50 refund prior to June 1st. No refunds after June 1st.

This run may cross snow fields and includes plenty of rocks, mud, sticks and other things that can cause you to get hurt. It isn’t for everyone but is what makes trail running fun! We hope you will join us. We will do what we can to provide you with a safe and well-marked course with plenty of food and good vibes along the way. If it is hot, rainy or even snowy we may have to adjust the mileage or route to keep it safe. Most years it is cool in the morning with it getting into the 80’s by noon. That’s when the snow fields are very helpful to cool off with. Be smart and don’t overheat by taking advantage of the snow and the 2 small springs marked on the map. It is possible the route may be changed due to forest fire or excessive snow lingering on the course, but this is rare.
